Let’s look at how I did last month:
December Goals
Spiritual goal: start prayer-journalling again
Absolute fail. I don’t think I did it for more than three days. That being said, I started reading C.S. Lewis’s books again, so I was nurturing spiritual growth, just not in the way I hoped to.
School goal: Work a minimum of 4 hours a day on my thesis
Guys, I did so well on this one! I gave myself a week break because I got really sick near the end, but I was in the lab 5 hours a day pretty much and when I wasn’t at the lab I did my work at home! Really quite happy with how much I got done this month even with exams and final projects!
Lifestyle goal: do not buy anything for myself this month
Honestly after my hectic exam/final project week was up I was pretty good at this, but for the first half of the month I kind of sucked at it. Remember, I kind of failed this exam season when it came to my healthy living goals!
What I learned last month is that I really need time to recharge. After my exams and throughout Christmas break I have been completely devoid of energy. This break has been great to help me recuperate from my burnout, but I’m going to have to take extra care that I don’t work myself too hard this coming semester on things that aren’t necessary for me to succeed in the stage I’m at right now.
So, with that in mind, let’s go to this month!
It feels weird writing goals for January when I just wrote about my resolutions a few days ago, but resolutions are very different from goals I think. Resolutions are big-picture, goals are bite-sized pieces that help get you there! So here are my goals for January.
Spiritual goal: actually start prayer journalling again.
I really do want to get back into this, and I failed so miserably last month that I’m starting fresh! So far in January I’m doing well at this, it helps that Connor is also resolving to be more involved in spiritual disciplines this year so we can keep each other accountable (remember, that’s one of my 9 steps to help you keep your resolutions!).
School goal: Stay on top of all of my courses.
This may seem like a no-brainer, but I have a tendency to let one course slip if the others are more demanding, which does not make it easy when exam time comes. My thesis is almost finished, and I’ll be doing the bulk of the writing for my discussion/results this month so I know I’m going to be swamped with that and will be very tempted to just let my other courses sit. So, I’m making a conscious effort this month to remain diligent in studying! Come on, we can do this!
Lifestyle goal: Start a shopping ban.
I’m serious about this. I have more than I need, so I’m committing to not purchasing anything that isn’t necessary for my survival or personal hygiene. This includes junk food, new clothes, beauty products I want to try–anything! I’m going to try for a month and see how it goes. (However, my birthday is this month so I can go a little crazy then!)
So there you have it! Those are my goals this month!
What are some goals you have to help you achieve your resolutions this year?
