Want to Guest Post for Life as a Dare?

2 Sep

So something I’ve decided I need to do a much better job at is actually networking with all of you lovely bloggers out there. Because I read your blogs, I love what you do, but then I do a horrible job of helping to create community. And the blogging community is one of the reasons that I got where I am today with my website only a year after starting it!

To help fix that, I’ve decided to open Life as a Dare up to guest posters as a more regular addition. I want to be posting good, quality content more often for all of you lovely people, and this is a great way to do just that while also creating a better community among millennial bloggers.

So if you have something to say and are a blogger, or want to swap blog posts, e-mail me at becca(at)lifeasadare(d0t)com or just leave a comment and I’ll reach out to you! I’m so looking forward to having more of you featured on this blog, and getting to know you better as the months go on!

Here are the terms/how-tos of guest posting for LAAD:

1. The content must be clean, not offensive, and in line with Christian values

I’m a Christian blogger, so if you’re talking about something that isn’t in line with Christianity, even if it’s not offensive or anything, I will edit it or choose not to publish the blog post.

2. You must be a fellow blogger

I do not accept blog posts from companies.

3. No internal links to anything other than your personal blog

No affiliate links, and, again, no links for companies to boost their SEO. (If you’re citing an article, or have a resource that’s important, then go for it–it’s just that I have so many people guest posting because they’re being paid to boost the SEO of a company that I get wary about this. But if you check out this guest post there are tons of links to mental health resources, and it worked great.)

Ok, so now that the rules are down, here is how to actually submit!

4. Email a full post to me

I don’t have time to go through with you and think of some ideas for blog posts, unfortunately. I get a ton of people asking to post, and I simply don’t have the time to do an in-depth discussion with every single one. So look through my blog posts, think of a topic you think would be a good fit, and write the full post and send it to me! If I don’t think it will work on my blog, you’re free to take it to other blogs or publish it on your own. Email it to me at becca (at) lifeasadare (dot)com.

5. Send me a quick bio (your blog/twitter bio should do), a link to your blog, and a headshot

This is so that if I publish your post, I can send people back to you so you get more traffic!

6. Understand I may not post it immediately

Some of you send me guest posts in July that would be GREAT in January. So I’m not going to post it until January. It doesn’t help either of us for me to publish your post if it’s not going to get any traffic and make my blog seem behind the times. So if I accept your post, I WILL publish it, but maybe not for a little bit.

That’s all! I’m looking forward to working with you! :)

9 Ways to Stay True to Yourself: Blogger Edition

16 Mar

Is it just me, or is it actually really hard to stay true to yourself as a blogger?

Fun fact: I’ve been blogging since I was 10. On and off, of course, but still–I have 11 years under my belt. And something I’ve realized is that it’s so easy to lose your own, authentic blogging voice when you get caught up in the blogging world and start comparing yourself to others’ success.

I have been so guilty of this personally–when I was 16, I started a fashion blogging site. I am SO not a fashion girl, but I thought I could get more readers that way. Surprise: it crashed and burned. Turns out you actually have to know something about fashion to be a fashion blogger.  [Read more…]

Annoying Things People Do on Social Media

26 Oct
I’ve been back into blogging since March or April this year, and with that I’ve been back on social media quite a bit more than I was before. And I’ve noticed some definite things to not do on social media by watching others (and myself!).

Social media is a great tool, but honestly there are some things that just make me a little frustrated. I am definitely guilty of most of these that I’m about to share, but I hope I’ve gotten over them by now!

We all have a learning curve when we first begin to enter the social media realm. Sometimes I think that we all just need take a step back and laugh at how silly we can be when we start. We take ourselves way too seriously, I swear. [Read more…]

When Motivation is Hard to Find

24 Sep
This is going to be a bit of a personal post. I’m having a hard time finding motivation for most things this week.

My life has been amazing these last two months. Not trying to brag or anything, but I love being married, and I love my school life. My sister moved to Ottawa, so I’m seeing her more, and I’m finally finding a nice balance between wifely duties and the rest of life.

However, just because I’m loving life doesn’t mean it’s easy right now. For the last few weeks I’ve had a very hard time juggling school with blogging, and tons has come up and thrown a wrench in my plans. School is very busy. I read over 150 pages in the first three days of school alone. I thought third year was busy–no, it wasn’t. It was child’s play compared to the sheer amount of things to do this year. [Read more…]

How I Balance Blogging and Life

24 Aug
After getting married, my life kind of spun out of control for a little bit. But my blog schedule didn’t take a hit at all! I actually did better than I normally did.

That being said, the rest of my life kind of went off the rails for a few weeks. Connor and I were all over the place for the last month and a bit–honeymoon, various trips back to my hometown to get my driver’s license and get my wisdom teeth out, and we even got to go to BC to visit Connor’s family! It was a really great time, but in all of it I kind of let the other parts of my life slip away.

Although I was getting my 3 posts a week out, I wasn’t prioritizing my time well. Here are the things I need to get done every day:

  • Blogging
  • Taking care of the apartment
  • My various work and research things I’m doing this summer

However, generally I would start the day blogging and then not stop all day, and the other two categories were not getting done at all. [Read more…]
