I cannot believe December is here already! And we’re a week in!
I’m going to be honest: November was a tough month for me! School really took its toll this month, which is why I haven’t been as active around here for the last few weeks.
On that note, though, I cannot thank enough all of my lovely guest posters! I so appreciated you writing for my blog, and I couldn’t have done this month without you guys!
In case you don’t know, I decided that I want to achieve three things in my life: greater unity with God, greater achievement/organization in school, and less of a consumer-based lifestyle. To help achieve those goals, each month I create goals for each of those categories to help get me a bit closer!
Let’s look at how I did last month:
November Goals
Spiritual goal: read at least one chapter every day from the Bible
I did OK on this one actually! I missed about a week when it got really busy but I am really happy with the changes that I made this month. I’m definitely going to challenge myself again for December.
School goal: Do not get behind on readings
COMPLETE! I actually freaking DID this one! I am so happy with myself—I got behind on some assignments but that doesn’t stress me out nearly as much as being behind in readings, so I am so happy that I stuck with this one!
Lifestyle goal: do not buy convenience food all month
Meh? I only bought lunch twice, and both of them were on weekends, but I bought snacks with some friends a couple of times so I didn’t do too well with this one!
What I learned last month is that my downfall is stress. When I get stressed, I tend to shut down and become extremely unproductive. Anxiety makes some people work harder, it makes me just get extremely lethargic. So, this month, I want to work on stopping the stress before it starts, with these goals!
Spiritual goal: start prayer-journalling again.
I have always been obsessed with journalling, and this month I’ve actually been working on an introspective school assignment that’s forced me to re-read all of my old journals from high school and I’m remembering how much I used to love writing. I haven’t put aside time for it recently, and I really miss it. So I’m going to start prayer journaling again at least one page a day to help me get back into the habit of making prayer a part of my daily life.
School goal: Work a MINIMUM of 4 hours a day on my thesis.
This may seem like a lot, especially since I’ll be on break, but since I am completing my thesis two months before everyone else, Christmas break is a perfect opportunity to get ahead so that it’s not nearly as stressful later down the line. Obviously I’ll take a little break while I visit my family over Christmas, but I really want to get ahead so that when the semester starts I don’t get behind in my other courses or feel overwhelmed.
Lifestyle goal: Do not buy anything for myself this month
This is a big one—I don’t want to buy anything for myself this month, no clothes, no new books, no beauty products, etc. I’m working on using up what I already have, and I think that this will be a huge change in my mindset and hopefully show me how to use what I have, rather than just want want want. Of course, I’ll still buy Christmas presents and the like, but no little treats for myself.
What are some of your goals for December? Any Christmas goals this year?
