3 Reasons I Don’t Read Christian Fiction

18 Jun

My sister LOVES Christian romance novels.

She has an entire bookshelf filled with them. I love reading, but I just can’t stand them! They don’t have nearly enough plot for me, but that’s why she loves them! We were in a bookstore once, and she was looking at the romances, and while reading the back of one of them, said “Nope. Too much plot.” and put it back! We actually call them “hair books” since that’s the main reason she buys them–the girl’s hair is really pretty on the cover. [Read more…]

My Day On Mute

6 Jun

If you know me, you know that I talk. A lot. Probably more than I should.

But back around 4 days ago, I got a cold. I was fine for 2 days or so, but then yesterday my voice was shot. And today it’s worse. I can’t talk at all. I can barely whisper. And when I do whisper, it hurts a lot.

Interestingly enough, for the last few months I’ve been working as a lifeguard at the pool in the deaf school here in my hometown. [Read more…]

Freefall

25 Apr

I’ve always loved writing down everything. I’ve kept a diary since I was 10, which was one that had “PRIVATE: KEEP OUT OR BE SORRY” on the front. (Because heaven forbid anyone ever found out the secrets of the life of a 10-year-old.)

I typed out all my journals out a while back, so that I could search for a date and be able to figure out what I did on that day. It’s really cool, actually, and it worked really well.

But whenever I want to reminisce I never pull up the file that I made, I always pull out the real journals. Even though I spent all summer typing up these journals, the physical journals mean a lot more to me. [Read more…]

Using Talents and Spiritual Gifts

1 Feb

I’ve been talking to some people a lot recently about the future. What they want to do. Whether the work is worth it. These people are my friends, and I consider them to be absolutely amazing people.

What always confuses me is how they can get discouraged so easily. They always see someone smarter, more beautiful, more talented, more successful, friendlier, has “better” spiritual gifts than them, anything. It is so easy to compare ourselves to others, and when we do that, we forget about what God has given us. [Read more…]

Hope Through Pain

12 Jan

Have you ever thought that if there were no trials in life, there would be no reason to believe in God?

One of my friends hit me with that statement recently.

It reminds me of a verse in 2nd Corinthians, which goes like this:

Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves, but on God, who raises the dead. (2nd Cor 1:9)

That’s my favourite verse. It gives me hope—extreme hope. [Read more…]
