5 Reasons You Should Learn to Cook in your 20s

11 Nov
Hey everyone! Today I’ve got a guest blogger here, Kate Robertson from A Thought and a Half! She going to write today about why cooking in your 20s is awesome and something we all need to learn how to do! I love the post, and hope you will, too! Enjoy!

I’ve always loved being in the kitchen. As a kid, I was always willing to help my mom with whatever she was cooking or baking. She liked having an extra hand and I liked watching and learning what I could. If I’m being honest, though, I was only helping so I could lick the bowl.

As I got older, I started to appreciate cooking so much more. In college, I looked forward to moving to an apartment for the sole reason of having an actual kitchen and not having to use my dorm’s hall kitchen. (Okay, I looked forward to an apartment for other reasons, too, but the kitchen was definitely at the top.) My junior year of college, I got my kitchen and the fun began. [Read more…]

When Motivation is Hard to Find

24 Sep
This is going to be a bit of a personal post. I’m having a hard time finding motivation for most things this week.

My life has been amazing these last two months. Not trying to brag or anything, but I love being married, and I love my school life. My sister moved to Ottawa, so I’m seeing her more, and I’m finally finding a nice balance between wifely duties and the rest of life.

However, just because I’m loving life doesn’t mean it’s easy right now. For the last few weeks I’ve had a very hard time juggling school with blogging, and tons has come up and thrown a wrench in my plans. School is very busy. I read over 150 pages in the first three days of school alone. I thought third year was busy–no, it wasn’t. It was child’s play compared to the sheer amount of things to do this year. [Read more…]

The Freshman’s Guide to College Day 8: Staying Healthy

12 Aug
Today in The Freshman’s Guide to College we’re talking about staying healthy in college!

We’ve come pretty far in this Freshman’s Guide to College already! We’ve talked about so many topics already–what supplies you need, what to bring, how to study, and how to be social. Today we’re talking about health! Health is the one thing that I did terribly the first year I went to school. And I mean terribly. I’ve never been super health-conscious until this last year, but there are so many things that make staying healthy in college so much harder than when you’re still at home in high school, living with your parents I find!

Nevertheless, I think that staying healthy in college is incredibly important. Being in good health improves cognitive functioning, as well as keeping you motivated and energized to both work and have fun.

For those reasons, I made sure that this last year I didn’t let my health slip away from me like I did the year before. The freshman 15 is so real, people, but these are some tips that I have learned to make staying healthy in college that much easier! [Read more…]

A Guide to True Self-Esteem

24 Jun

I recently got a message from a reader asking “What do you do when you have horrible self-esteem?”

Self-esteem has become this holy grail recently I find. It’s the fix-all, and people spend hours trying to build up girls’ self-esteem but often it just doesn’t seem to work. Don’t you find sometimes that it just gets annoying when everyone keeps saying things like “you just need to love you for you because you’re just as good as everyone else! You’re beautiful, you’re talented, and you just need to open your eyes to that!”? Because I do. [Read more…]

How to Relax

20 Aug

I am generally a very happy-go-lucky person (I like to think so, anyway).

But on off days, I can really struggle with anxiety, to a point where it’s past just being stressed. I get snappy, extremely panicked, and it’s just generally not very fun for anyone involved.

The truth is, I have a hard time figuring out how to relax sometimes.

I think it’s harder today than it was even 10 years ago to find how to relax, since we live in such a stimulating world. [Read more…]
