Happy November, everybody!
As some of you know, I have decided to start doing monthly goals to help me gain productivity and peace in my life. I started last month, in October, with quite ambitious goals that I’m surprised worked as well as they did! I’m actually pretty impressed with myself.
I liked the results from last month, so I’ve decided that I’m going to stick with this goals thing! It helps to have clear steps set in your mind to help you get to where you want to go–it’s a lot easier to think “get rid of 2 things a week” than “declutter the house”. Breaking down bigger goals into smaller steps is the only way to achieve anything, so I think this is a great personal discipline to have!
So first, a recap from last month.
October’s Goals Report
1. Do school every week day from 8-5 – not quite
I failed at this one, to be honest! I did pretty well, but there were quite a few times I got distracted during the day and had to work on weekends instead. Still didn’t have to stay up late to study at night, though! Overall, I’d give myself a 70%. Didn’t do horribly by any standards, but not what I was aiming for.
2. Have relaxing time twice a week – Success!
This was actually really difficult for me. But I did a facial one day and had a bath another day every week, and it helped with stress levels quite a bit! I’m going to continue doing this one.
3. Get rid of two things a week – Yes?
Sort of success? I didn’t get rid of two things a week, but I took one day and purged like 16 items, so that’s actually the equivalent of 4 things a week… so yes? Kind of?
Overall, I’m very proud of myself. This month was pretty busy with my honours thesis, but in this month it should be easier to stay organized.
So, on to my goals for this month!
I’ve decided that I want to achieve three things in my life: great unity with God, greater achievement/organization in school, and a less consumer-based lifestyle. To help achieve those, every month I’m going to specifically create goals for each of those categories to help me get there!
Spiritual goal: Read at least one chapter every day from the Bible.
I’m pretty good with many spiritual disciplines, especially prayer. I’ve never really had much of a problem feeling God’s presence, and I tend to see him pretty much everywhere. That’s never been a struggle for me (or at least, not yet). I do know, however, that I really struggle with getting myself reading God’s word. And honestly, a lot of it is because I’ve literally memorized a huge chunk of the New Testament. That being said, I always feel so refreshed when I’m spending time in God’s word, and it is such an important discipline! So every day I’m going to read at least one chapter. My mom and I have been talking about Jeremiah quite a bit, so I think I’m going to start with that.
School goal: Do not get behind on readings
I’ve been doing an OK job, but on average I’m about a week behind on readings. I’ve gotten caught up over reading week this past week, though, so now my goal is to stay on top of things! It shouldn’t be too difficult now that I’m back on track, but I definitely want this to be priority in my school life.
Lifestyle goal: Do not buy any convenience food all month
I recently wrote a post on how to save time and money by bringing a packed lunch. I do pretty well at this, I probably only buy lunch about 10% of the time, but I want to cut out that 10%, too! I really don’t like buying food–it’s not as healthy, you’re wasting money, and it creates so much trash. So I’m going to not buy any snacks or meals out all month. (Unless it’s a date or something, of course)
Those are my goals for this month! What are some of your goals? What do you want to accomplish in November?
