Managing OCD: One Christian’s Perpsective

4 Nov

If you’re suffering from OCD, you’re not alone.

But, of course, it’s really easy to feel alone no matter what mental health issue it is you’re struggling with. I talk a lot about anxiety on here, but I wanted to make sure everyone was included. So I was so excited when my friend Alison (who I met through this blog, actually!) was willing to speak about her journey on LAAD.

Without further ado, here’s Alison!

6 Simple Switches to Improve Creativity

2 Nov

Just want to let you all know that this post on simple switches for creativity is sponsored by Boise paper. All opinions are my own. Thanks, Boise, for helping make it possible for me to do this job that I love so much!

As an author and a blogger, my challenge is always to find simple switches for creativity.

I don’t have a lot of time or the energy to completely uproot my life, go on a 3-month trek through the wilderness to “reset” everything, so I rely on quick fixes instead. It’s less stressful, more efficient, and often extremely effective.

No matter what you’re aiming for in life, creativity is going to help you get there. Finding new ways to study so that you can do better on exams. Thinking of a new way to approach that story so that your article stands out from everyone else’s. Coming up with new ways to convince kids to eat vegetables. Whatever you end up doing, creative thinking will be a real asset.

But we get so caught up in the automatic world that we’re in that we never really seem to think creatively anymore at all. We don’t read or write, we watch Netflix. Instead of going for walks, we play video-games. It can be really easy to get into a rut!  [Read more…]

The 3 Biggest Mistakes We Make When Preaching the Gospel

1 Nov

From the first days of Sunday school people tell us, “evangelize to friends! Spread God’s word! Tell everyone about Jesus!” but no one tells us that sharing the gospel is actually really hard sometimes.

Because, you see, although I completely agree that we’re supposed to tell people about God, I also think that we need to be very careful as to how we tell people about Him. And we sometimes have a hard time with that.

I saw this post on Facebook the other day. Although faith-based Facebook posts rarely make me think, this one caught my eye. I tried to find it again and couldn’t but it pretty much said:  [Read more…]

8 Things to Stop Feeling Guilty About

19 Oct

Feeling guilty is the worst.

Seriously, it just is. Especially when it’s guilt that just sticks around, even after you’ve dealt with the problem. And it is so easy to get stuck in a trap of feeling guilty about things we can’t change.

Now, I do believe that conviction, a kind of guilt, is really important–it helps show us that we’re not living out our beliefs, and that we’ve got places in our lives where we need change. But I’m not talking about conviction here. I’m talking about soul-sucking, day-ruining, emotionally-destructive guilt.

But on this blog I really want to help you experience purpose and freedom in life, and a huge part of that is learning when to let go of feelings of guilt. So I have compiled 8 things to stop feeling guilty about to share with you today! I hope it gives you some comfort.  [Read more…]

5 Things I Wish I Knew in Senior Year

11 Oct

Senior year. This is it. You’ve made it this far.

Senior year and I had a very complicated relationship. I loved parts of it, like how in depth into the material we got, but other parts were, well… not so great. Most of the things that were difficult, though, weren’t so much about senior year as much as they were about me.

In senior year, I learned so much more about myself than I did in any of my courses. I think it’s that way for most people, but it was a definite learning curve for me. And many of these lessons I learned after they could have helped make my year that much better! So I wanted to make sure that you didn’t make the same mistakes I did, and had the best senior year you possibly could. Because it really is a blast.
